Confidence that comes from our practice

Happy smiling woman with curly hair lounging on couch.

How do you usually start your day?

We wake up and go straight to our habits. What are those
for you? Sometimes we hop straight on our phones, check social media, pour a cup of
coffee..If we leave it up to chance, is it really serving us? When I heard the phrase “your
practice” I used to think of super unrelatable zenned out yogis who maybe didn’t understand
the normal stressors of life. ( just being honest)

I’m a type four on the enneagram, and am generally a big ball of emotion fueled with
inspiration and romantic ideas of life’s many adventures. “A practice” to me sounded
confining. It sounded like a way to make your morning or evening predictable and boring.
What I’ve come to realize however, is that unlocking the morning and evening practice that
works for you, has the ability to supercharge your life! It can get you in a confident single
minded focus for your purpose, and help you to step into your strengths. When you aren’t
scrambling through your morning, using up decision making energy in those precious early
hours, you have the energy and space to zone in and instill your being with confidence. I
believe as women we need a moment at the beginning of the day to connect with ourselves. If
we don’t get a chance to zone in at the beginning of the day, will we show up as our best
selves throughout the day? I know that when I fumble into my day, I just simply do not show
up as my best self in everything I do. It’s not that I have to muster confidence, and if I don't
have the time I'm an insecure mess...but there is a magic that happens when we have a
moment to check in with ourselves and choose a positive mindset for everything we put our
hands to that day.

For me in this season I wake up to a glass of lemon water (beautiful on digestion), and hop
strait into my running clothes. Jogging in this season has helped me to set into motion what I
see for my future, and helps me to physically feel that I'm moving forward. I get inspired, I
speak life over my thoughts and over what I'm planning on doing that day, and visualize
women coming into freedom through Wide Open Space Living. I get into a mindset of
confidence, and choose to run with a heart full of hope! I then come home and make a
massive heavy metal detox smoothie (love packing my morning with fruit) and get ready to
step into my day!

It’s important to know that your practice will shift in different seasons of life. Some seasons I
hate running and that's ok! The underlying focus here understanding what is supportive to you in a particular season. For example, In this season I thrive on combining
the primary food (nourishment that isn’t physical food) of physical activity into my morning,
with the secondary food (nourishment that is physical food) of a ton of delicious fruits. This is
where I thrive..right now.

My evening practice is simple. I know that I need the primary food of relationship ( AKA quality
time with my husband or friends) coupled with turning off my phone an hour before bed, and
having the secondary food of my favorite herbal teas. Tea just helps me breath deep
diaphragmatic breaths which is literally what brings your body into rest and digest!
