The highest form of self care
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of self care? Is it drug store sheet masks and forcing yourself to take a bath? So often we have this idea that we have to box check self care to feel grounded, but I truly believe that the external self care can’t have as great of an impact if the internal is in full on turmoil. Sure, a night of your favorite tea and a french clay mask can help you to calm and connect, but what if we could enter into those acts with a calm and loving outlook from the start? The greatest self care is not the external, but taking a pause to check in on what’s happening with your internal world. Have you been bashing yourself down with your thoughts all morning? Have you been sitting in limiting beliefs? Gulping down tea from that place is not nearly as impactful. Something that I find to be an extremely effective form of self care is having a set alarm on my phone for noon to check in with my thoughts. For me personally I call it my “overwhelm check in,” because I tend to have a habit of letting my thoughts go to everything I need to do all at once instead of focusing on one thing at a time. I’m aware that this little habit can get me down and overwhelmed. What is it for you? What do you need healed in your thought life? Do you need to journal, write yourself a quick note or reminder? We know what our souls need to hear more than any other person. Let’s think of the internal as primary to the external when it comes to self care. Rise up friend…freedom and confidence is a choice!
