Toxic culture in the name of health
The last “cleanse” I did was almost two years ago. I was already in nutrition school at the time, and did not realize that my thinking was still stuck in “my health must be somewhere out there to be attained.” I always thought that I was missing something and that there was something wrong with me health-wise. I started a nine-day cleanse that looking back now was completely insane!! No proteins or fats were included…just a whole bunch of celery juice, fruits, and veggies. I was still trapped in the toxic mindset that someone else knows what health is for me. I was approaching nutrition the opposite of gently which is what I now believe. I was actually being pretty aggressive with my body. It’s hilarious to see how connected our lives are. The very thing that I believed internally most of my life was 100% reflecting on my plate! The belief that I was not enough, and that I was missing out on something big.
Long story short, this “cleanse” landed me in the hospital with my sodium and potassium levels close to zero, and I quite seriously could have died. They hadn’t seen someone with such low levels before.
Can you IMAGINE!!! A cleanse marketed as a picture of pure health causing me to be at war with my body and had me fully ignoring my biological cues. That was the end for me. I was DONE. I knew there was another way.
Our culture can have such a toxic picture of health, with an emphasis on the fact that you don’t know what you need. Listen to your doctor, your trainer, the cleanse on the front of that magazine…ANYTHING but yourself. Well, I was for sure done with that. Toddlers know what to eat and when to eat it if given the chance. We were all born with the ability to approach health intuitively, and yet we have overcomplicated it and deceived ourselves!
If you are done with the lack of trust and shame that comes with failing all the toxic health kicks that were never healthy in the first place, join me in a new way of coming back into trust with YOU. It’s not easy…it takes healing and work, but it’s the safest place to be with your health and leads to a happier and more confident version of you!
