When anxiety grips with fear around food
I had no clue that my eating was disordered. Not one bit. I thought I had a lot of things wrong with me in my health journey so I was taking extra care of my body by making sure that every last crumb that went into my body was “healthy".” What I clearly could not see is that I was STARVING for the nourishment of primary food. What is primary food? It’s all the beautiful things of life that nourish us on a soul level. It’s called primary because shockingly, it is far more important than what you eat at the end of the day. YES, nutrition is key, especially when we are approaching anxiety holistically…BUT I speak from experience here, no amount of Kale will heal you when your soul is craving deeper healing.
What I thought was care was actually control. When I thought I was working to heal my gut, the fear and obsession were actually making me sicker, more anxious…imbalanced! We do this, don’t we? We want a doctor to give us answers, we want to know what the heck is WRONG…but I want to ask you this…What are you craving? What is it that you are walking through? Did you just lose a dear friend? Are you feeling alone, craving deeper relationships? Have some old traumas come up? Let’s look at the root cause, shall we?
Yes, food is powerful medicine. It truly is! But when our mind is not right, when our hearts need healing with something deeper we need both primary food, and secondary food. We need to look at how we are nourishing our lives on and off the plate! When I began to see myself as deserving of that deeper nourishment, I began to feel more connected to my body and not so flustered. I’m not afraid about what food will be there when we are hanging out with friends because now I know what I need is community before I need kale. Infuse your world with primary food, and watch the fear diminish. Infuse your world with that kind of deep nourishment, and I promise you, you will feel more gratitude towards your beautiful healthy food instead of panic, and your body will utilize the nutrients better.
